Therapeutic Approach

I believe inherent to our human-ness is our desire for deep, authentic relationship.  Our counseling relationship will afford you a safe, confidential space where you can take those first steps toward being truly known and deeply accepted.

Together, we’ll work to understand and address the fears, self-protection, anger and shame that may be holding you back and receive God’s compassionate care for you in those wounded places.  For those who have trusted in Jesus, the promises inherent in the gospel will be the well we draw upon most frequently and most deeply, supplementing with clinically-based interventions consistent with God’s truth.

For those who do not follow Jesus, I will offer that same compassionate space along with empirically-based interventions to help you to achieve your personal goals.

Healing is a journey, not a quick fix, but as you engage in the process of therapy, you’ll begin to discover and connect more with your true self. Over time, you’ll find greater freedom to connect authentically with God and others, creating meaningful relationships that reflect the purpose and fulfillment you were made to enjoy.

What To Expect During Therapy

There will likely be a lot of ground for us to cover in our first sessions together looking at your context, stressors, strengths, and story.  We will patiently wade through the experiences that have brought you to this point in your journey, considering the beliefs, values and influences that have shaped your personhood and the way you interpret your story.

We all want relief from suffering.  However, I have had to learn to move at the “pace of grace.”  I want to come alongside you at that same pace: sensing your comfort level with off burdening the load you may be carrying and unpacking your story together.  It is my highest privilege to be trusted with your story and to hold it in a sacred space.  Together, we can trust God’s Spirit to lead the time we have and rely on His wisdom to be our guide.
